What it covers

Drain lining is a trenchless repair method that fixes damaged pipe from the inside. A localised patch liner — a resin-impregnated felt sleeve — is positioned over a defect and cured in place under air or water pressure, forming a hard new wall section over the damaged area. A full cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner does the same thing along the entire length of a run, effectively creating a new pipe inside the old one.

Who it's for

Homeowners whose CCTV survey has found a fractured, root-damaged or displaced-joint drain running under a driveway, patio, garden or under the house itself, landlords wanting a permanent fix without tearing up a tenant's garden, and commercial sites needing sewer repairs without shutting down access or excavating a car park.

When you need it

As soon as a CCTV survey confirms a structural defect — a crack, a displaced joint, root ingress or early-stage deformation. Patch liners handle localised defects up to around a metre; full liners handle entire runs with multiple defects or general deterioration. Excavation is only needed where a pipe has fully collapsed or deformed beyond what a liner can set against.

Why professional matters

Digging up a driveway to replace a section of drain typically means breaking out block paving or tarmac, excavating to depth, laying new pipe, backfilling and reinstating the surface — often £3,000+ before you even get to the pipe itself. A liner fixes the same defect from a manhole or access point with no surface disruption, at a fraction of the cost and disruption, and with a 25-year design life that matches or beats a dug-and-replaced run.

What Happens If You Wait

## The Job Gets Bigger.
The Bill Gets Worse.

Every plumbing and drainage problem follows the same curve — cheap to fix early, painful to fix late. Here's what the wait actually costs.

### Leaving A Crack To Become A Collapse

A hairline fracture found on survey doesn't stay hairline. Ground movement, root pressure and the constant flow of water through the defect widen it over time until the pipe deforms or collapses — turning a same-day patch liner job into a multi-day excavation.

### Excavation Costs Escalate Fast

Digging up a driveway or patio to reach a drain run means breaking out and reinstating the surface on top of the actual pipe repair — block paving, tarmac, turf or decking all add cost and disruption a liner avoids entirely.

### Repeated Root Ingress Through The Same Joint

If a displaced joint isn't sealed, roots will find their way back through it every season, however many times you jet or cut them out. A patch liner permanently seals the joint from the inside so roots can no longer get in.

Common Mistakes We See Weekly

- Repeatedly root-cutting the same joint instead of lining it once and stopping the ingress permanently
- Assuming any drain defect automatically means digging up the garden
- Choosing excavation purely because it 'feels more thorough' when a liner achieves an equivalent or longer design life
- Lining a pipe that's already deformed beyond the point a liner can set against — this needs excavation instead, and a proper survey tells you which
- Skipping the CCTV survey and quoting a repair blind

Our Process

## Five Steps.
Every Job, Every Time.

01

### CCTV Survey

We confirm the exact location, length and severity of the defect first — lining without a survey is guesswork, and the survey tells us whether a patch, a full liner or excavation is the right call.

02

### Jet Clean The Run

The pipe is jetted to a clean, debris-free surface so the resin liner can bond properly — a liner set against silt or grease will fail early.

03

### Position The Liner

A resin-impregnated felt patch or full-length liner is fed into position over the defect using a packer, calibration hose or inversion drum depending on the method and run length.

04

### Cure In Place

The liner is cured under air or water pressure (or UV light on some systems), forming a rigid new pipe wall bonded to the host pipe, typically within a few hours.

05

### Post-Repair Camera Check

A final CCTV pass confirms the liner has cured correctly, sits flush at any junctions, and flow is fully restored — footage and a written completion report are provided.

Why It's Worth Doing Right

## Specific Outcomes,
Not Vague Promises.

### No Digging In Most Cases

Patch and full liners are installed from existing manholes or access points — your driveway, patio and garden stay untouched.

### 25-Year Design Life

Cured-in-place liners carry a manufacturer design life of 25 years and a practical lifespan well beyond that — comparable to a newly excavated and replaced run.

### Fixes The Cause, Not Just The Symptom

Sealing a displaced joint or fractured section from the inside stops root ingress and infiltration permanently, rather than clearing the blockage it causes every few months.

### Fast Turnaround

Patch liners are typically same-day. Full relines on a domestic lateral are usually completed within a day.

### Cost-Effective Against Excavation

Avoiding surface breakout and reinstatement typically saves thousands compared with digging up and replacing the same length of pipe.

### Survey-Led, Not Sales-Led

We only recommend lining where the CCTV survey confirms it's the right fix. Where a pipe is genuinely beyond lining, we say so and quote excavation instead.

Technical Detail

## How We Actually
Do The Work.

Trenchless repair only works when the defect, the pipe condition and the liner method are correctly matched. Getting this wrong means a liner that fails early, or excavating a pipe that could have been fixed from the inside for a fraction of the cost.

Local Knowledge

Bracknell-based, working daily across Wokingham, Maidenhead, Windsor, Ascot, Reading, Woodley, Woking and into West London. The right kit for Berkshire soil, Berkshire pipework and Berkshire weather.

### Patch Liners vs Full CIPP Liners

A patch liner (CIPR — cured-in-place repair) covers a localised defect, typically up to around a metre in length, and is the right choice for a single fracture, an isolated root entry point or a displaced joint. A full CIPP liner runs the entire length between two access points and is used where there are multiple defects, general deterioration along the run, or where several patches would cost more than one full liner.

### What A Liner Can And Can't Fix

Liners work by bonding a resin-cured sleeve to the inside of a structurally sound host pipe — the pipe needs to hold its shape for the liner to set against. Cracks, fractures, open or displaced joints, root ingress and surface scale are all suitable. A fully collapsed section, severe deformation (ovalling beyond around 10%), or a pipe that's lost its bore entirely cannot be lined and needs excavation and replacement instead. A CCTV survey tells us which side of that line a given defect falls on.

### Materials & Curing Methods

Liners are typically felt or fibreglass tubes impregnated with a two-part epoxy or polyester resin, inserted using an inversion drum (turning the liner inside-out as it travels the pipe) or pulled into place and inflated with a packer. Curing is achieved with ambient air pressure, hot water, steam or UV light depending on the system and run length, typically taking 1–4 hours to fully harden.

### Reinstating Lateral Connections

Where a lined run has branch connections — a gully or a second property's lateral joining the main run — these need to be cut back open after the liner cures, using a remote-controlled robotic cutter guided by camera. Missing this step leaves a blocked connection, so it's built into every full reline as standard, not treated as an extra.

### Domestic vs Commercial Lining

Domestic lining deals with single laterals typically 100mm–150mm in diameter, usually completed in a single visit. Commercial and larger diameter sewer lining involves bigger-bore pipework, multiple access points and often out-of-hours working to avoid disrupting a site's operation — the same principles apply, scaled up. Sean's background in commercial drainage subcontract work for one of the UK's largest water companies covers exactly this scale of lining project.

Questions

## Straight Answers.
No Sales Spiel.

Still got a question we haven't answered? Phone the office and ask an engineer directly — no call centre, no script.

[07949 996627](tel:+447949996627)

### How much does a patch liner or reline cost?

+

A single localised patch liner typically runs £400–£900 depending on access and pipe diameter. A full reline on a domestic lateral is usually £1,200–£3,000+ depending on length and number of connections to reinstate. Every quote follows a CCTV survey and is fixed before work starts.

### Will lining really avoid digging up my garden?

+

In the large majority of cases, yes — both patch and full liners are installed through existing manholes or access points. Excavation is only required if a pipe has genuinely collapsed or deformed beyond the point a liner can set against, and the survey will confirm which applies before we quote.

### How long does a liner last?

+

Cured-in-place liners carry a 25-year manufacturer design life and typically perform well beyond that in practice — comparable to a newly laid uPVC pipe.

### How do you decide between a patch and a full reline?

+

A single, isolated defect gets a patch liner. Multiple defects or general deterioration along a run get a full reline — it's usually cheaper and more durable than fitting several individual patches close together.

### How long does the work take?

+

A patch liner is typically same-day, including the initial clean-out. A full domestic reline is usually completed within a day, including a post-repair camera check.

### Do you always need a CCTV survey first?

+

Yes. Lining without first confirming the exact defect, its length and the pipe's overall condition is guesswork — the survey is what tells us whether lining is even appropriate versus excavation.

### What happens to branch connections when you line a full run?

+

They're cut back open after the liner cures using a robotic cutter guided by camera, restoring the connection without leaving it blocked. This is included as standard on every full reline.

### Is lining suitable for a collapsed pipe?

+

No — a liner needs the host pipe to hold its shape to bond against. A genuinely collapsed section needs excavation and replacement, which the survey will identify.

### What guarantee do you offer?

+

Every job leaves with a written 12-month workmanship guarantee, and manufacturer warranties on parts, liners or equipment are registered and emailed across with the paperwork. If anything fails inside the guarantee window because of our work, we come back and put it right at no charge.

### Do you cover my postcode?

+

Yes — Overflow is based in Bracknell (RG12) and we run drain lining and patch repair jobs daily across Bracknell, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Windsor, Ascot, Reading, Woodley, Woking and West London, reaching out into Surrey, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire. If you're inside the M25/M4 corridor or nearby, you're in our patch. Call 07949 996627 and we'll confirm an arrival window on the call.
